How Do I Split and Merge Futures Contracts?

2024-08-23
Toobit now offers the function to split and merge futures contracts. A futures contract is a legal understanding that one party will buy or sell a particular asset at a predicted price in the future. To learn more about future contracts, check out our guide on Trade Terms.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to split and merge futures contracts on Toobit.

Step 1

Register or make sure you are already logged into your Toobit account.

Step 2

Visit the Futures Trading page linked here for your convenience. Once you have entered the Futures trading page, navigate to the upper right corner of the header and click on the Settings.

Step 3

Select “Merge” or “Split” to adjust position and then click the confirmation button. The selection button will be highlighted in blue to indicate your selected option. For this example, we have selected "Merge", but you may select which function you prefer.

Step 4

Before changing the mode, please ensure that there are no holding positions or pending orders. If there are still holding and/or pending orders, please close the positions and cancel the orders before switching into Merge/Split mode.

How to Change Relevant Data After Splitting

Step 1

Open 2 long positions in the ETHUSDT perpetual trading pair first. Traders can see that the current number of positions is 2, the Entry Price is 1688 USDT, and the Liquidation Price (Liq.) is 1450.28 USDT.

Step 2

After opening a 1.88 long position in the ETHUSDT perpetual trading pair, it will show two positions separately. One is the original 2 positions that we demonstrated in the example above, and the other is the newly opened 1.88 positions. In the Split position mode, both positions are displayed separately. Each has its own entry price, estimated liquidation price, and margin existing simultaneously.

How to Change Relevant Data After Merging

Step 1

Firstly, open a 1.27 short position in the ETHUSDT perpetual trading pair. Traders can see that the current position is 1.27, the Entry Price is 1588 USDT, and the Liquidation Price (Liq.) is 1971.7 USDT.

Step 2

After opening a new 2 short position in the ETHUSDT perpetual trading pair, the current number of positions will be 2.27. This is due to the original position 1.27 being merged with the new position 2, therefore adding these two positions together. Due to the increase in the number of positions, the opening price (the average price of 2.27 positions) will now be adjusted to 1579.18 USDT, and the estimated liquidation price will be adjusted to 1789.99 USDT as well.
And that's it! Congratulations, you are now able to split and merge futures contracts.
